It started innocently enough July 4th morning when Michael, our friend Todd, and I headed to The Mission in San Diego's East Village for breakfast. The Mission's menu is filled with healthy "Chino Latino" options and interesting combinations.
I started with a small platter of fresh fruit
And the Zen Breakfast
Scrambled egg whites, braised tofu, brown rice, lightly grilled zucchini, tomatoes, onions, and squash.
It was a bizarre mixture of savory, Asian flavors but somehow it all worked. The braised tofu had a firm texture with just enough sear to almost caramelize the outside edges. I absolutely loved this breakfast!
