The Mission San Diego

It started innocently enough July 4th morning when Michael, our friend Todd, and I headed to The Mission in San Diego's East Village for breakfast.  The Mission's menu is filled with healthy "Chino Latino" options and interesting combinations.

I started with a small platter of fresh fruit

And the Zen Breakfast
Scrambled egg whites, braised tofu, brown rice, lightly grilled zucchini, tomatoes, onions, and squash.

It was a bizarre mixture of savory, Asian flavors but somehow it all worked.  The braised tofu had a firm texture with just enough sear to almost caramelize the outside edges.  I absolutely loved this breakfast!

This doesn't seem so bad, does it?  Like I said, it was a good way to start the weekend.  It gets much worse from here...
